Our Objectives

Childhood cancer and life threatening blood disorders place enormous emotional strains upon the family and can cause financial hardship.

We aim to alleviate as much distress as possible through our various care programmes.

More detailed information about our programmes can be found on another web page - Go here.

The assistance for families aims to:

  • provide a wide range of support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.

  • provide information, and items of immediate practical use, to all newly diagnosed families.

  • organise support groups to assist families to cope with the stress that the diagnosis brings.

  • provide accommodation close to the treatment centres for families from out-of-town, and assistance with transport costs where necessary.

  • solve transport problems to ensure that a care-giver and child can return to the treatment centre in order to receive medical care through financial assistance, depending on the results of a needs assessment.

To ensure good specialist treatment facilities, we aim to:

  • Work in close liaison with the medical staff to ensure that the medical and physical facilities in the centres are of a high standard, and that the units provide a warm, child friendly environment.

  • Support health professionals working in the field of Paediatric Oncology to maintain and improve their levels of expertise in the specialised field.

  • Advocate for those whose lives are affected by childhood cancer, particularly to ensure that good treatment facilities are available for all children in the country, and that appropriate policies are implemented for the benefit of all children.

  • Support research into studies investigating the causes and treatment of childhood cancer.
