Building more CHOC houses: 2004 onwards
In 2004, Danone Clover approached CHOC as a potential beneficiary of their corporate social investment programme. After some discussion, Danone ran the first campaign that year and raised about one million rand, which was used to purchase the first Danone Clover CHOC House in Bloemfontein, across from Universitas Hospital. In subsequent years, money was raised to purchase houses in Diepkloof, Soweto (serving the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital); Plumstead in Cape Town (serving Tygerberg, Groote Schuur and Red Cross hospitals); Pretoria; and East London. The amount donated each year was in the region of one and a half million rand.
Added to the immense boost of having new houses, the visibility that CHOC gained from the Danone campaign was invaluable.
