The CHOC Pietermaritzburg branch has been in existence for over 12 years. Our office was in Jabu Ndlovu Street above St John United Church. In 2013, Greys Hospital in a historical move opened a treatment facility for children with cancer and life threatening blood disorders. This prompted the Department of Health to request for a CHOC House to be opened and assist out of town patients and parent/caregivers with accommodation. With the financial assistance of Platinum Life the CHOC House Pietermaritzburg came to being.
On 30th September CHOC House Pietermaritzburg celebrated its 3rd birthday. Being in existence since 2013 the CHOC house Pietermaritzburg has been accommodating patients and caregivers from rural areas of Kwa-Zulu Natal. These are families who cannot afford to travel from hospital to home through the arduous lengthy treatment.
CHOC Pietermaritzburg sent out an invitation to all Drs, nursing staff, CHOC volunteers and local CHOC supporters. We asked moms to share their story and we shared the CHOC “We are One” Video. There was not a dry eye at the celebration.
Thank you and well done to all CHOC Kwa-Zulu Natal staff and the medical team for their commitment to "KEEPING MORE THAN HOPE ALIVE".
