September was gold ribbon month - marked as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month; this is a time when globally, countries honour and remember children and families affected by this rare disease, and help rally awareness on the early warning signs of childhood Cancer. CHOC Childhood Cancer foundation SA encouraged all South Africans to “Go for Gold” by purchasing the gold ribbon from the online CHOC Store or our office. The ribbon was to be worn throughout the month of September. This went a long way in highlighting the disease and showing support to those battling cancer around the country.
In East London we chose to create a DVD in support of this campaign. It was filmed at the CHOC supported paediatric oncology ward at the Frere Hospital in East London and it reflects a great mixture of the children, nurses, doctors and CHOC volunteers singing and participating. It depicts the suffering and challenges the children and their parents’ face, while at the same time the joy of being part of a loving community. Thank you to Donovan Scott who produced the DVD for us at no cost. We are very happy for you to share this video link https://youtu.be/EHuVjAuZsro with your family and friends.
