In October, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation attended the Rare Diseases Conference 2016 featuring the 11th ICORD Annual Meeting. The conference provides a global forum for all stakeholders within the Rare Diseases field to engage in open discussion, strengthen models of best practice and share knowledge within the field or rare diseases and orphan drugs.
This year was the first time the conference was hosted in African with an extended program to incorporate patients, families, caregivers as well as support group and minority groups in the rare disease community. For CHOC, this was an ideal opportunity to set up an exhibitors table and spread awareness about Childhood Cancer and the work of the organisation. Throughout the course of the conference we met with different practitioners, patients and other non-profit organisations. We shared experiences, networked and heard about the challenges faced as well as solutions to be adopted. It was certainly an inspiring week.
